Napeague Loop

Also known as The Promised Land Trail is a 1.8 mile loop trail near Amagansett, New York.

Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 32 min to complete.

You can extend your hike with the addition of the Beach Loop seeing stunning view of the beach.

Or the Pitch Pine Trail now known as the Ghost forest Trail due to nearly all the pitch pines have been killed by the Southern pine beetle and grassland is now taking over this area

The best times to visit this trail are April through June.

Napeague State Park Oceanfront Nature Loop

1.4-mile loop trail near Amagansett, New York. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 24 min to complete

The Oceanfront Nature Trail was laid out local naturalist Mike Bottini.

The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.

Napeague State Park Beach Trail

1.6-mile out-and-back trail near Amagansett, New York.

Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 30 min to complete.

The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.

A georgeous mixed view of dunes, woods, and meadows while walking the shores of Napeague Harbor.

The harbor sand tends to be wet and firm, with small rocks.

The Springs and Amagansett Trail

 The Springs-Amagansett trail is a 4.5 mile (In total 9 miles) hike from Springs to the municipal parking lot in Amagansett.

The trail is clearly marked with yellow dots along the entire length of the hike.

The hike does consist of a few trips off the trail onto local roads.

The Springs-Amagansett Trail, a joint venture of the Town of East Hampton and the East
Hampton Trails Preservation Society, was inaugurated on December 1, 2007.

The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.

Walking Dunes Trail

Tucked in Hither Hills State Park between Montauk and Napeague, the 2.7-mile Walking Dunes Trail is a local favorite for coastal hikes.

Northwest winds for over 100 years or more have been blowing sand from nearby headlands to the shore and causing the dunes to “walk” across the land. 

The loop winds through pebbly beaches and grassy dunes, with sweeping views of Napeague Harbor and Bay.

Though there is no Parking Lot. You park on the shoulder at the end of the road. The beach is on the left and the trail starts on the right.

Hither Hills West Overlook Trail

A peaceful 5.2- mile hike. This loop follows the Parkway Trail, Split Rock Road, Ram Level Road, Flaggy Hollow Road, Serpents Back Trail, Old North Road, and Stephen Talkhouse Path.

 The trail is well-marked but can be muddy; hikers should be aware of significant coastal erosion, particularly along the bluffs. It is highly recommended to wear bug spray and use tick repellent

A longer 10-mile segment of the Paumanok Path connects to this area, connecting Napeague to the overlook.

Parking is available alongside NY 27/Montauk Point State Parkway at a pull off.

Petticoat Hill Trail

An easy 1.4 mile roundtrip (0.7 one way) The Petticoat Hill Trail runs from the Hither Hills West Overlook to the junction with the Old North Road.

The trail has a slight incline on sandy terrain, but it suitable for hikers of all ages.

From the starting point overlook there are views looking out towards Block Island Sound.

Fresh Pond Trail

Approximately 3 mile loop there is one steep hill at the beginning of the hike, but otherwise it is a mostly flat and easy trail.

This trail, often accessed via the Paumanok Path, connects to a wider network of trails and provides a tranquil experience.

Parking is available off Route 27. From this point, follow Old Tar Road to the Stephen Talkhouse/Paumanok Path which leads to Fresh Pond.

From here, the trail continues to a bluff overlooking the shoreline.

Hither Hills Beach Walk

Hike through Hither Hills State Park onto Napeague Bay, around Goff Point, and back along Napeague. On an beautiful 5.6 mile loop.

Sweeping views of the ocean and shoreline along the way.

The loop is mostly flat with some small hills.

At points you will be walking along the beach with no trail markers

You will begin from a small parking area on the shoulder of Napeague Harbor Rd.

Elisha's Valley Trail

An easy 3.2 mile (round trip) path starting from a large parking area along Old Montauk Highway.

Crossing the road and walk up a street a short distance to access the trail on your left-hand side.

The sandy path heads through the woods and crosses Montauk Point State Parkway. Please use caution here.

The trail ends at the junction with Old Tar Road.
